Today I opened a document in Microsoft Word (a book review that I was poised to publish, barring the odd alteration to some sentence or two) when wanting to modify this document the screen went blank. I suppose the right thing to own done at that time was to head to edit>undo but I didn't.
I was frankly mystified; I'd already suffered a shock last week-end when my lap top suddenly refused to retort and I were built with a rather depressing a day of concern until an associate here had diagnosed a problem with it. Relief!
In these twenty four hours, it provided me with the opportunity think on simply how much we often depend on our little machines. Just over last year, my old PC caught the herpes simplex virus and the same thing occurred, unexpectedly. I lost, not merely some precious writings but my emails, passwords and stuff I can't (or wouldn't like to) re-call.
It brought back exactly the same memories: It was like having brain surgery the place where a large part of my existence have been removed and I had exactly the same situation last weekend, albeit for one day approximately, zombie state.
I do often back-up things by using an external H/D but I ought to admit I'm a little lax about this. Luckily during those times, a number of my old email addresses were stored over a greetings card web site so I was very grateful for that no less than.
So to this morning. I opened the document, composed of some 1000 words or thereabouts so that as soon as I attempted to start being active . words the screen went blank, immediately, no warning, no: "Are you sure you need to ditch this number of hours of the creativeness?"
No - nothing, zilch.
Then I tried system restore, which I may not go anywhere near and also have it disabled (though it seemed to have re-abled itself today on it's own - curious?) Negative result anyway.
So, I searched and I searched, from the usual channels and I can find this 19.5 kb file easily but with exactly the same result - blank page.
Now obviously it must be somewhere in my hard disk drive but where? I even checked the re-cycle bin just in case, but again, no.
I spent hours on the net, trawling from the Microsoft (soft within the head?) "support" which. as usual had me going round and round and rou....what?? Oh, yes!
Sorry with that, just nodded off, the thing is that.
I even down-loaded a recovery programme and, needless to say, re-cycled that right away.
Point is, I'm a bit nervous now about writing any articles, whether they can just disappear in smoke before my eyes. I always save, save, save as I'm writing but with this occasion, I'm writing direct onto Street Articles in the same way a precaution and definately will decide to save any future stuff as a draft; a minimum of that way, I know it's available somewhere.
I'd advise anybody else to complete the same task.
Meanwhile, if any one of you everyone has any response to this bizarre problem, you could possibly could tell me, so I can avoid it in future.
Many thanks.
