Here's ways to install Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the HTC Droid Eris. You can install it using ROM Manager along with the Kaos 6 Gingerbread ROM.
The HTC Droid Eris wasn't an increasingly popular phone. It was launched as a mid-range Android smartphone when there was a number of other better options already available. It was a good hit though, and is also still on Verizon.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread was published about a month back and is officially available only around the Nexus S. However, there are lots of unofficial Android 2.3 ROMs going swimming for many popular devices just like the HTC EVO 4G, Motorola Droid X, HTC Desire and also the HTC Legend.
Even the HTC Droid Eris posseses an Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM available, with a few bugs but is effective. It is an experimental build, and is also to get installed your own risk. It includes all of the Google apps for Android. Most of the features work nicely, but there are several issues too. The new version is very stable and runs without crashing. I would recommend the Kaos 6 Gingerbread ROM for that Droid Eris.
In this tutorial, I will explain tips on how to install Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the HTC Droid Eris.
1. Download the Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM for the HTC Droid Eris.

2. Connect your phone in your PC, or use a memory reader to copy the Android 2.3 ROM for your SD card. Insert the SD card back to your phone.
3. Download the ROM Manager application from Android Market (Clockworkmod ROM Manager) and install it. ROM Manager will allow you to install, back up and restore ROMs easily.
4. Start ROM Manager and find the Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery substitute for install the recovery image which you will need if things make a mistake. Also choose the Backup Current ROM substitute for require a backup of the current ROM and save it on your own device.
5. Now visit Install ROM from SD Card to put in the Android 2.3 Gingerbread Kaos v6 ROM. Select the Wipe Data and Cache option prior to starting the ROM flashing.
In a couple of minutes, your phone should reboot and it will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
If you've got any difficulty with ROM Manager, just boot in to the recovery mode manually and install the Android 2.3 ROM directly.
Also note, that you need to have root access on your HTC Droid Eris to be able to flash ROMs using ROM Manager.
